Inevitabile jump into the past con Belong, ultimo album dei Pains of being pure at heart dalle atmosfere leggere e coinvolgenti. Se fin da Belong, traccia d'apertura, quasi ci si aspetta un ritorno dei New Order e ci si lascia trascinare dal "dream" che ricorre in tutto l'album (Even in dreams e Girls of 1000 dreams), l'intro di Heaven's gonna happen now evoca palesemente She Bangs the Drums degli Stone Roses, mentre il chorus sembra essere composto da Billy Corgan, ispirandosi non poco a 1979, non solo per la voce di Kip Berman terribilmente simile a quella del leader degli Smashing Pumpkins, ma anche per come esordisce la traccia:
"Justine, you’re dying just to hear the sound, and dreaming of another town".
Sarà la stessa Justine che "never knew the rules, hung down with the freaks and gouls" o è una semplice coincidenza?

Questo è quanto afferma Justin Young, leader dei Vaccines, band indie rock nata a Londra nel 2010 portata al successo dal primo demo If You Wanna nell'estate 2010, seguito dal primo singolo Wreckin' bar (Ra Ra Ra) e dalla pubblicazione dell'album nel marzo scorso "What did you expect from The Vaccines?" che ha ricevuto critiche positive anche da Zane Lowe, noto conduttore radiofonico di BBC Radio 1.

Liam Gallagher invece li ha definiti "noiosi".. Ed effettivamente qualcosa di vero c'è: un appiattimento di sonorità, un chorus insistente che porta allo sfinimento. Album, però, che merita di essere ascoltato per brani come "All in white" (prossimo singolo) "Wetsuit" e "A lack of understanding" apprezzabili ballate malinconiche . Senza dubbio un primo ascolto dell'album  invoglia ad un secondo, il secondo ad un terzo...dopodichè c'è il rischio che la monotonia prenda il sopravvento e improvvisamente ci si rende conto di averli già depennati.

Allora, cosa c'è da aspettarsi da The Vaccines? Un gran successo oggi (in Uk si parla addirittura di loro come la next big thing!) con caduta nell'oblio fra qualche anno.

3 californiani di Los Angeles, band di recente formazione (2009), un LP all'attivo che li ha resi noti nel 2010 in USA e Australia dove si sono guadagnati la posizione #32 della classifica Triple J Hottest 100 of 2010. Pumped up kicks riassume lo stile dei Foster the people, inconfondibilmente indie, rievocando paesaggi californiani e lazy summer afternoons.

Sonorità electro pop e dance di Houdini e Helena the beat ricordano gli americani Passion Pit. L'album Torches uscirà il 23 maggio.
